About me

I will be using this blog as I prepare for the Conservative Party nomination for Hertfordshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner and then, hopefully, the election on 15 November 2012.

I have lived in Hertfordshire with my wife Annette for more than 12 years.  We currently live with our two young daughters in Salisbury Village, Hatfield.

I have worked for most of my 17 year career with police forces, criminal justice organisations and other public services across the country.   With police forces I have focused on delivering change at all levels; for example by:

  • improving the service provided by volume crime investigations and ensuring victim satisfaction
  • refining the way in which multi agency intervention is used to manage repeat offenders
  • optimising workforce shift patterns for neighbourhood patrols
  • preparing forces so that they can collaborate with each other (collaboration saves money and improves the quality of service provided)
  • recommending ways to ensure resilience is maintained as police officer and staff numbers change
  • reducing the time wasted by police officers attending unnecessary  trials (and saving the Crown Prosecution Service money)

My voluntary activities allow me to work with my local community.  I am vice chair of Howe Dell School and a ward coordinator for Welwyn and Hatfield Neighbourhood Watch.

In this blog I will demonstrate why I believe I am an exceptional candidate for the role.

Please take the time to visit the site regularly.  Feel free to comment on my posts or contact me directly.

Thanks, Richard
